French Destroyers Event: the Full Guide

Update 0.8.6 opens an arc which sees the release of a new branch of French destroyers!

In this article, you'll find out how to gain early access to the ships, what Symbols of France are, and what you can acquire in exchange for Republic Tokens.

  • A total of 42 missions across four Directives.
    • Main reward is Premium French destroyer V Siroco and her permanent camouflage.
  • Get French Destroyers containers through Directive missions, daily missions, daily shipments, and lastly, by watching official World of Warship streams.
    • These containers have a chance of dropping combat missions with the reward of early access to Tier V–VIII French destroyers.
  • With the release of Update 0.8.7, Tier II–VIII French destroyers will become available to research in the Tech Tree.
  • Tier IX and X destroyers will join them with the release of 0.8.8.
  • Obtain more resources, including the new event resource “Republic Tokens”, with your first win with select ships during Version 0.8.6.
  • Trade in Republic Tokens and doubloons in the Armory for the chance to obtain early access to French destroyer IX Mogador with the French Navy permanent camouflage.

Summarizing the branch

The main feature of Update 0.8.6 is the chance to be among the first to try out the new set of researchable ships. But what makes French destroyers so special?

  • The unusual properties of their hulls: their HP can be reduced to zero, just like the ships' ends. The result is that this part of the ship receives half the typical damage after several hits.
    • For more information on how ship HP is distributed, watch our dedicated How it Works video.
  • The absence of the Smoke Generator consumable is compensated for by the ships’ high speeds and the enhanced Engine Boost consumable they carry.
  • Starting from Tier VI, French destroyers are equipped with the Main Battery Reload Booster consumable, which is quite an extraordinary feature for this ship type.
  • Starting from Tier VIII, the new destroyers enjoy flat-trajectory ballistics and AP shells with high armor penetration for their ship type. This enables players to inflict considerable damage to enemy cruisers’ citadels from medium ranges.

Despite their good parameters, capturing key areas quickly is not the main task of the new destroyers. High speeds and effective weapons enable these ships to support their allies from afar. As the battle develops, you’ll find it worthwhile to look for opportunities where you can first use Engine Boost to reach the perfect firing position, and then Main Battery Reload Booster to inflict maximum damage from that point. But do keep an eye on the consumable expiration timer, as you'll need to prepare your escape route. If you don’t manage to sink your opponents, your destroyer will be extremely vulnerable without the smoke screen and Engine Boost consumable at hand.

Early access will operate differently this time:

  • With the release of Update 0.8.7, Tier II–VIII French destroyers will become available to research in the tech tree;
  • Tier IX and X destroyers will join them in the tech tree later, with the release of 0.8.8.

Please note: in Update 0.8.6 you won’t be able to research the next ship in the branch.

Symbols of France

You’ll find that in your carousel, researchable Tier V–X ships, as well as Premium and special Tier II–X ships, will have new symbols on them—Symbols of France—in addition to the usual stars that give a bonus for the first victory of the day. These Symbols act in much the same way as the stars: for the first victory on a ship with a Symbol of France, you'll receive Coal or Republic Tokens—a new temporary resource for the Armory.

Ship ClassTierResourceAmount
Premium and special X Republic Tokens 20
IX 20
VIII 15
VII 10
VI Coal 400
V 300
II–IV 200
Researchable ships and early access ships X Republic Tokens 15
IX 15
VIII 10
VII 5

V 200

Bonuses can be obtained for a victory in any battle type, except for Clan or Training Battles. If your base XP in the post-battle statistics is zero, you won’t receive a bonus for the victorious battle, but you'll be able to get it when you win the next battle on the ship.

Symbols of France will also appear on ships that were purchased, repurchased, or obtained from containers during Update 0.8.6.

Please note: you can get a bonus for each ship only once during Update 0.8.6.

Event Directives

The new game event tasks you with completing 42 missions across four Directives. A new Directive will open each week, and you can start progressing in the next Directive only once you've completed the necessary number of missions from the previous one.

Missions can be completed in Random, Ranked, and Co-op Battles. Some can be completed in Operations and Clan Battles. You’ll discover the details in the game client.

Dates

[Local date widget here]

Dates and time when the second, third, and fourth Directives open are: July 29, August 5, and August 12; 08:00 CEST.

In completing the event’s missions and Directives, you'll earn various in-game items and French Destroyers containers. These have a chance of dropping you a mission that, once completed, will provide you with early access to Tier V–VIII French destroyers. The main rewards will be French destroyer V Siroco and her permanent camouflage.

If you already have V Siroco in your Port, you'll receive the full price of the ship in doubloons as compensation.

After completing the fourth Directive, you’ll get access to the Hall of Fame. Here, you can battle it out with the best players, and rewards will be issued to every Commander who scores at least one point in accordance with the special rules of the Hall of Fame.

After a week's results are summed up, you can get an even bigger reward if you find yourself among the top 50%, 25%, 10%, or 5% best players.

Top 5% best players 3x Mosaic camo patterns
Top 5–10% best players 3x Spring Sky camo patterns
Top 10–25% best players 4x Revolutionary camo patterns
Top 25–50% best players 4x Victorious camo patterns
Players who earned at least 1 point in accordance with the Hall of Fame rules 5x French Riviera camo patterns

At the end of the event, the Top 100 players will get a special achievement called "Top 100."

For more details, check out the rules for crediting Hall of Fame points which are available in the game client.

Shipments with French Destroyers

Enter the game between July 26 and August 9 to gain access to the Daily Shipments attached to the French destroyer arc. After entering the game for the first time, you'll have 14 days to obtain up to 10 rewards—with one dropped per day. Thus, you can skip four days out of two weeks and still claim all the valuable rewards.

Event Containers

You can obtain as many as 30 containers in total: 20 for completing Directives and missions, three from Daily Shipments, and seven for your success in Daily Missions.

You can also obtain up to 10 additional containers by watching the official World of Warships streams, activating the codes that drop, and completing combat missions.

The Armory offers standard and Premium French Destroyers containers in exchange for doubloons. The Premium variety drop more rewards than standard ones.

A French Destroyers container provides:

  • 1x French Riviera camo or 1x special signal (Wyvern, Red Dragon, Ouroboros, or Hydra).
  • 600 Coal, or 1 day of Warships Premium Account, or 1x special signal (Dragon, Scylla, Leviathan, or Basilisk).
  • 50,000 credits.
  • A chance to get a combat mission that rewards players with one of the following French destroyers: V Jaguar, VI Guépard, VII Vauquelin, or VIII Le Fantasque.

A French Destroyers Premium container provides:

  • 5x French Riviera camos.
  • 5x special signals.
  • 1,500 Coal; or 1 day of Warships Premium Account; or 300,000 credits; or 150 doubloons.
  • A chance to get a combat mission that rewards players with one of the following French destroyers: V Jaguar, VI Guépard, VII Vauquelin, or VIII Le Fantasque.

Premium containers have a higher chance than the standard variety of dropping a combat mission that can grant you early access to French destroyers.

  • −3% to the ship’s detectability range by sea
  • +4% to the dispersion of shells fired by enemies at your ship
  • +100% XP per battle
  • +75% Commander XP per battle
  • +50% Free XP per battle

All ships come with a Port slot and Commander with 3 skill points. The combat missions to unlock early access can be completed until September 30. Each ship’s mission can be obtained only once. If you receive a mission for a ship that you already have in your Port, you'll receive compensation in the form of credits for completing it.

Have you obtained V Jaguar, VI Guépard, VII Vauquelin, VIII Le Fantasque, or V Siroco? Complete a one-time combat mission for each of the ships to earn 15,000 XP and 250 Republic Tokens as a reward. A similar mission is available for completion for Premium cruiser VIII Bayard.

Bundles with In-Game Items

With the release of Update 0.8.6 the Armory will offer the following sequentially available set of bundles in exchange for Republic Tokens:

  • 5,000 Coal; 2,000,000 credits; and 5x Type 59 camouflage patterns—200 Republic Tokens.
  • 5,000 Coal; 2,000,000 credits; 300 doubloons; and 5x Spring Sky camouflage patterns—300 Republic Tokens.

  • 5,000 Coal; 2,000,000 credits; 400 doubloons; 5x Mosaic camouflage patterns; and 5x each special signal flag—500 Republic Tokens.

A total of 1,400 Republic Tokens will be required to obtain all four bundles.

Having obtained all these bundles, a special random bundle will become available for 1,000 doubloons.

  • For random bundles all the rewards are visible in advance: the bundles’ contents and their amounts are displayed when viewing the currently available bundle.
  • After each random bundle exchange, one new random bundle opens out of 30 available.
  • One of the random bundles drops Tier IX French destroyer IX Mogador with the French Navy permanent camouflage.

If you hover the cursor over the bundle's description in the list, you'll see how many such bundles you've already received. Having collected all the bundles, you're guaranteed to have obtained all the available rewards.

Republic Tokens can be obtained only in Update 0.8.6. The Tokens and the event tab in the Armory will be available until the release of Update 0.8.8, at which point they'll be exchanged for credits at a rate of 1 : 12,000.

  • 450,000 credits—20 Republic Tokens
